th Grade Geography students are spending week 3 learning about maps and location. Students will practice location skills using latitude and longitude and take part in a Race Around the World on Friday, finding 14 destinations around the world using coordinates. Winners will take home a prize. Geography students will create their own islands and map them for the class. 7
th Grade World History is studying Economics ands will be looking at concepts of choice, criteria, opportunity cost, scarcity and limited resources. 8
th Grade US History will begin the study of US History with a brief review of Native American cultures, European exploration and the beginning of colonies in the New World.
After School Monday, students in Film Club started the year discussing goals of the club and started our first film. Wednesday, Y-Club will meet and discuss the focus and scope of this year’s club. Officer elections may be scheduled at the meeting. Meeting time is 2:30 – 3:00PM. Investors Club will meet from 3:00 – 3:30PM and set rules and begin creating portfolios for the first trimester competition. Thursday, the first Budget Ball match is scheduled for the GSS gym from 2:30 – 3:30. Last year the Budget Ball matches were quite popular and students in grades 5 – 8 are welcome to join the fun. Friday, Press Corps will meet from 2:30 -3:30. Students will begin interviews, writing articles and filming segments for the first Friday News Broadcast. We are hoping the excitement from the first meeting helps to create a fun and dynamic weekly show covering school and parish news events, information on upcoming events, interviews of students and staff and weekly features and contests. All this and it is only week 3!
