Vintage Gaming Club - Students meet once a month to compete on vintage gaming systems such as Atari, Intellivision, Coleco and the original Nintendo system. Students in grades 5 - 8 are welcome.
Chess Club - Students meet once a month and hone their strategy skills in this classic game. Students in grades 5 - 8 are welcome.
Film Club - Students meet two days a month and view films from a list of classics. Students must have a permission slip signed by parents before attending. Students will have opportunities to discuss the films and issues they present. Students in grades 6 - 8 are welcome.
Budget Ball - Budget Ball combines the athleticism of soccer or football and economic strategy of weighing values of powerups and sacrifices in a fun filled activity. Participants may be called upon to hop on one foot while passing or wearing oven mitts, silly hats or Halloween masks to gain points. Students in grades 4- 8 are welcome.
Drama Club - Drama Club is responsible for preparing and performing the school play each Spring. Drama Club usually begins the first of March (after KUNA) and runs to the 2nd week of May. Students in grades 3 - 8 are welcome.
GSS Press Corps - The Press Corps works towards creating a weekly news broadcast highlighting the activities, events and news of note happening at GSS, Students in grades 5 - 8 are welcome.
AEGEAN Service Club - AEGEAN Service Club was formed in 2015 at GSS by a group of students wanting to perform service for the school. It has blossomed over the years and now AEGEAN is responsible for recycling, gathering trash, helping teacher's and staff with projects and assists other clubs with special projects such as Blessing Bags and St. Vincent Canned Food Drive.
Y-Club - Y-Club or Student YMCA is the sponsoring body for KYA and KUNA and participates in a number of service projects benefiting the community, state, national and world causes. Our Y-Club has recorded over 50 hours of service a semester and has been recognized by the YMCA of Kentucky for their efforts.
Student Council - Student Council is responsible for school spirit activities and act as student representatives to visiting guests. Homeroom representatives are chosen from grades 3-8 and faculty members choose merit representatives. Students elect officers in a general election held the last week of August.
KYA - The Kentucky Youth Assembly is a 3 day conference held in Louisville and at the State Capital for students from all over the state. KYA students will prepare and debate bills, run for leadership team or office and can serve as clerks or doorkeepers. This years conference will be held on December 15-17 at the Crowne Plaza in Louisville. Fees for the conference run between $260 and $285 per student and there are scholarship opportunities availlable. Students in grades 5 - 8 are welcome to join.
KUNA - The Kentucky United Nations Assembly is a 3 day conference held in Louisville. Students from all over the state come to the conference and display plackards, flags, cultural booths, costumes and can perform at the International Stage. Students will inform students about the culture and history of their chosen country, prepare and debate resolutions, debate issues in the Security Council, serve as parliamentarians, run for office or leadership team and take part in an international service project. We are looking at attending the conference held at the Crowne Plaza in Louisville on March 1-3, 2020. Students in grades 5 - 8 are welcome to join. Fees for the conference run between $260 and $285 per student and there are scholarship opportunities.
KJHS - The Kentucky Junior Historical Society gives member students the opportunity to compete in several categories and the KJHS convention in November and the National History Day competition in March. KJHS also sponsors the Annual Downtown Scavenger Hunt and the KJHS Art Contest in the Fall. Students in grades 4 - 8 are welcome to join.
Investors and Entrepreneurs Club - The Investors and Entrepreneurs Club is an Economics oriented club that sponsors the Stockmarket Game Competition and provides their own portfolio challenge in the market. Entrepreneurs have the opportunity to design, form business plans, create advertising and marketing for and manage a school business. Students in grades 5 - 8 are welcome.
