Middle School SS Newsletter & Activities March 6-16, 2017
Geography – 6
th grade will continue their study of Africa and will be examining Eastern Africa this week. Friday we will do the regular routine of Landmarks, Weekly Quiz and the Where in the World Is … game. Have a grand week!
World History – 7
th grade is beginning a webquest on Ancient Rome. The webquest gives a great overview of all things Ancient Rome – religion, Gods, lifestyle, government, etc. We will check in on the Stock Market Game on Wednesday and make final adjustments to our portfolios. Thursday we will jump to the Middle Ages and possibly do some Castle Building.
US History – 8
th grade will finish up the Washington to Antebellum America Learning Centers early in the week. Midweek, we will begin our examination of the Civil War. This may be one of the most important units we study and you will have some video and primary source material to enrich our study.
Activities
KUNA – We have finally made it, we are at the KUNA Conference from Sunday to Tuesday. This year’s group has done a really nice job of preparing and they will present two resolutions, send two members to the Security Council, have one student act as Summit Clerk and the entire group will perform the Drumming Routine on International Stage that they created and worked on for the past few weeks. Students attending are, 8
th graders Caroline Renshaw, Olivia Onodu, Comfort Gimba and Adrienne McMurray; 7
th graders Dani Demspsey, Fernanda Fuentes and Lauren Murray; 6
th graders Luke Sweasey, Chef Gwandi, Ty Hancock, Sofia Arnold, Ella Luking, Anna Amato, Isabelle Cecil and Arantza Valladares-Valles.
Creative Writing – Creative Writing will meet on Monday, March 6 from 2:30 – 3:30 PM in the Computer Lab.
Drama Club – Drama club will have their first meeting of the Spring on Wednesday, March 8 from 2:30 – 3:30 PM. Members will be looking at scripts for our Spring performance. Students will meet Monday and Tuesday, March 13 & 14 from 2:30 – 3:30PM to select the play and begin tryouts. Students in grades 5-8 are welcome to sign up for the play.
KJHS – KJHS students will meet Wednesday from 2:30 – 3:15 PM. The Downtown Scavenger Hunt is the topic of the day as we plan for an early May date and are looking at a full day event.
Student Council – Student Council will meet on Thursday, March 9 from 2:30 – 3:30 PM. The upcoming officer elections will be the main topic on the agenda.
Aegean Service Club – Aegean Service Club will meet on Friday, March 10 from 2:30 – 3:30 PM. Recycling and work in the outdoor classroom are two of the projects on the schedule.
GSS Press Corps – GSS Press Corps will meet on Friday, March 10 from 2:30 – 3:30 PM. Hopefully, We will be setting up our broadcast booth that can be used for the remainder of the year.
Y-Club – Y-Club will meet on Wednesday, March 15 from 2:30 – 3:30 PM. We will track and record service hours for the club and classrooms.
Budget Ball – The next Budget Ball Match is scheduled for Thursday March 16 from 2:30 – 3:30 PM in the GSS Gym. Students in grades 5-8 are welcome to join the fun.
